Population dynamics of Equus conversidens (Perissodactyla, Equidae) from the late Pleistocene of Hidalgo (central Mexico): Comparison with extant and fossil equid populations

چکیده
The Mexican horse Equus conversidens is a representative member of the Quaternary North American megafauna. Systematics, phylogeny, and stable isotope ecology this species are known in some detail, although information regarding population unexplored. Numerous fossil remains (isolated teeth, mandibles, skulls, postcranial elements) have been collected from Pleistocene deposits that outcrop at southeastern Hidalgo, central Mexico. available dental sample suitable for recovering aspects its dynamics. Our study compares life history traits cohorts E. state Hidalgo to extant equids America (United States Canada), Europe (France), Africa (Rwanda, Namibia). Life tables age-structured models allow us describe demographic parameters mortality patterns. We highlight was typical K-strategist with high probability surviving adulthood asymptotic growth rate (? = 1.05) indicating close balance. Considering mammalian associations different habitats flexible diet , we suggest ambush ( Panthera atrox ) cursorial predators Canis dirus played major role prime-dominated pattern species. presence woodland-grassland ecosystem sustained diversity herbivores occurrence large-sized dynamics were regulated by resource availability selective predation, as it occurs populations plains zebra, quagga . • Paleodemography explored life-tables Lewis-Leslie matrices. Mortality profile. Hunting pressure non-human related pattern. Predation regulate

Horses in the Cloud: big data exploration and mining of fossil and extant Equus (Mammalia: Equidae)
—Extant species of the genus Equus (e.g., horses, asses, and zebras) have a widespread distribution today on all continents except Antarctica. Extinct species of Equus represented by fossils were likewise widely distributed in the Pliocene and even more so during the Pleistocene. In order to understand the efficacy of “big data” for (paleo)biogeographic analyses, location records (latitude, lon...

15 صفحه اولRevising the recent evolutionary history of equids using ancient DNA.
The rich fossil record of the family Equidae (Mammalia: Perissodactyla) over the past 55 MY has made it an icon for the patterns and processes of macroevolution. Despite this, many aspects of equid phylogenetic relationships and taxonomy remain unresolved. Recent genetic analyses of extinct equids have revealed unexpected evolutionary patterns and a need for major revisions at the generic, subg...
متن کاملStellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...
